When you think of the pinnacle of luxury, one brand comes to mind: Rolls-Royce. Their bespoke creations are the epitome of opulence, and the new Bespoke Collection is no exception.
Unveiled this week, the stunning new vehicles in this collection are inspired by precious gemstones and feature details meticulously designed to evoke a sense of rarity and magnificence. The exterior paint colors are derived from vibrant gemstones like citrine, amethyst and rubellite, giving the Phantom and Ghost models a dazzling pearlescent effect in the sunlight.
The Rolls-Royce Amethyst Droptail reflects the multifaceted identity of its owner. The design of this exquisite car is influenced by the client’s family business, which started as a small gemstone boutique and grew into a global conglomerate with diverse interests. The client, an art connoisseur with a preference for subtle elegance, has an international background and possesses a collection of precious jewels, modern artworks, and significant automobiles, all housed in a custom private museum.
With a profound vision, the client entrusted the Coachbuild designers to create an elegant embodiment of the amethyst gem, symbolizing purity, clarity, and resilience, as well as being their son’s birthstone. This underlying theme permeates every detail of the motor car, rewarding those who appreciate its nuances with a captivating experience.
The exterior design of the Amethyst Droptail draws inspiration from the Globe Amaranth wildflower, which resiliently blooms in desert landscapes near one of the client’s residences. The car’s duotone paint finish captures the delicate journey of this flower from bud to bloom.
The soft purple hue, named Globe Amaranth, features a silver undertone and fine flecks of powdered aluminum, creating a mesmerizing iridescent effect. Amethyst contrast paint, a unique mauve color with a slight metallic shine produced using a blend of red, blue, and violet mica flakes, is featured on the upper coachwork.
The carbon fiber construction of the car’s lower sections features an intricate chevron pattern book-matched along two axes, representing two years of development. This complex geometric decoration, combined with a layer of Amethyst-tinted lacquer, showcases the client’s affinity for understated elegance.
The selection of materials for the Amethyst Droptail reflects the client’s discerning taste and commitment to excellence. The starting point was Calamander Light open-pore wood, known for its intricate texture and long color bands. This wood inspired the creation of Sand Dunes leather, perfectly matching the caramel strands on the Calamander Light wood. After months of meticulous searching, wood with color bands identical to the leather was acquired, demonstrating a dedication to perfection.
The extensive use of wood in the car’s interior required an innovative veneering process. The “bookmatching” and “slip-matching” techniques were employed to create a seamless, organic wood grain pattern. The exterior protective coatings, specially designed for the Droptail, underwent rigorous testing to ensure durability in different climates.
Amethyst gemstones adorn not only the Spirit of Ecstasy figurine but also the rotary dials inside the car’s interior. These convex cabochon-style gems, chosen for their subtlety and elegance, exude a sense of refined luxury. A collaboration with Vacheron Constantin resulted in the creation of a bespoke timepiece, showcasing intricate horological craftsmanship and seamlessly integrating with the car’s esthetics.
Rolls-Royce unveiled the Amethyst Droptail during a private event in Gstaad, Switzerland, attended by the patron, their family, and friends. This exclusive location mirrors the opulence and exclusivity embodied by the car itself.
